Allan Scharn was born on July 12, 1935 to Emil and Myrtle Scharn in Watertown, SD and passed away in Cedar City, UT on September 9, 2022\n\nHe attended Clark High School in Clark, SD. Following graduation he married Mary Block from Webster, SD and they moved to Southern California. While attending college, Allan worked in the Retail Food Industry. \n\nAllan and Mary are the parents of Debra and Steven, Grandparents of Matthew Francis and Andrew Francis and Great Grandparents of Quinn Scharn and Phoenix Francis.\n\nAllan spent his entire career in the food business. He served as President of Gelson's Markets, a Southern California supermarket chain. He was also active in community, charity and industry service. Allan served as a member of the board of directors and officer of several grocery companies. He was also a member of the board of directors and officer of the Southern California Grocers Association, a member of the board of directors and officer of the California Grocers Association, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the California Grocers Association Educational Foundation. \n\nAllan received several awards including: The National Conference of Christian and Jews Humanitarian Award, the Dennis Day Memorial Award from the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Spirit of America Award from the National Grocers Association, and the Hall of Achievement Award from the California Grocers Association. \n\nFollowing retirement, Allan and Mary moved to Cedar City, UT. \n\nAllan was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Leslie. He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Debra (James) Lefler, son Steven (Cindy) Scharn, grandsons Matthew and Andrew, great grandson Quinn and great granddaughter Phoenix.\n\nPrivate family services will be held at a later date.
