Arlan B. (Bud) Carter, 87, passed away at the Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City, Utah on Sunday, May 16, 2010. Bud was born April 21, 1923 in Minersville, Utah to Frank William and Drucella Carter. While serving in the Calvary Division of the U.S. Army in Ft. Riley, Kansas, he met and married Virginia Rose Dennis on November 19, 1944 in Clay Center, Kansas. Afer three years of service he was honorably discharged and moved back to his hometown of Minersville, Utah to pursue his love of farming. On June 9, 1962, Bud and Virginia were sealed in the St. George LDS Temple and their children were sealed to them.Bud was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings. He loved M-Men basketball and went to the all-church tournament twice. His passion was for his horses and he served as a secretary of the Thoroughbred Racing Association. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a section foreman.He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Enoch, Utah, children: Gary (LaVonna) Carter of Washington, Utah, Randy (Lauana) Carter of Enoch, Karma (Ross) Low of Riverton, Utah, Jeff (Brenda) Carter of Cedar City, Dennis Carter of Enoch and Brad Carter of Las Vegas, Nevada. Also his 19 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren (and two on the way), and two great-great grandchildren, two brothers, LaVere and Kent and one sister, Bonnie Jean Holdaway. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bob.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Homestead Chapel, 1390 East Midvalley Road in Enoch, Utah. Viewings will be held Friday, May 7, 2010 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 North 300 West Cedar City, Utah and again on Saturday from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the chapel prior to funeral services.
