AVON MAREE PAYTON, age 96 passed peacefully away of natural causes in Cedar City, UT on November 7, 2022.
Avon was born in Los Angles California May 27, 1926 and raised by her mother, Rhea Taylor. While living in La Brea California she told of playing with the Little Rascals of movie fame as they lived on the same street. Her mother was a studio artist for the motion picture studios and often took her to work where she watched movie making.
Avon studied at Poly Tec college until the war came along when she volunteered to work as an aircraft mechanic working on the hydraulic systems on large planes. She often would be required to sit right seat for the test flights and said she hoped she put the landing gear back together correctly.
At age 50 she purchased an airplane and flew regularly over Southern Utah just to see the country by herself.
She was a long-time resident of Kanarraville, UT and loved the quiet life there.
She was active in taking classes at SUU until she no longer could drive well into her 90's.
She enjoyed studying geology and had quite a rock pile to show for it. She often could be seen at yard sales as her need to store for the next depression was great.
Her children, Richard Payton, Douglas Payton (deceased), Kitty Marie Payton, and Harold TEE Payton(deceased). She has eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
She was very appreciative of her adopted family at Cedar Health and Rehabilitation for their caring and love.
Her wishes are that there will be no viewing and she will be cremated and laid to rest under her favorite tree.
She was certainly a real character for those that knew her. We will miss her.
