Delmer Lloyd Schafer, born in April, 1930, died this last Saturday of an apparent heart attack. He was liked by many, misunderstood by others. He grew up on a farm in Wray, Colorado, with his parents, a brother, and two sisters. His family worked hard to raise cows, pigs, and a few crops. As a young man he left the farm and tried several different things, and was even drafted into the army for the Korean War. Eventually he entered into the nascent computer field where he worked for many years. Those were the days when computers filled a whole room and used punch cards to store data.He was married, had six children, and then divorced. He married again, and divorced a second time. All six children are still living. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1964, and ordained an Elder in the Church around a year later. Around 1983 he became inactive in the Church, and never returned to full activity. There will be a graveside service held in his honor on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 11 am in the Cedar City Cemetery.
