Doraine Orton Obituary (1928 - 2021)

Doraine Maria Roothoff Orton was born June 3, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Johannes Roothoff and Maria Engelina Veenendal Roothoff. She passed away peacefully August 2, 2021 in St. George, Utah surrounded by family. Doraine was raised in Sugarhouse and had many adventures with her Best Friend Annette, including riding their bikes to the Great Salt Lake. After graduating High School, she came to Parowan, Utah to visit friends. While there she met and fell in love with her husband Hal Laub Orton. Doraine and Hal were married January 23, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Parowan, Utah and had 5 children. They were married for 68 years. Doraine was a loving mother who taught her children to work hard, but also to have fun. She served as the PTA president when her children were young. She spent many years volunteering at the exhibits for the Iron County Fair. Doraine also enjoyed creating many elegant floats for the 4th of July and Labor Day Parades. She had the most gorgeous yard full of flowers. Along with Hal, they were awarded several times by the City of Parowan for its beauty. She also taught and enjoyed square dancing with her husband for many years. Doraine was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She held several callings over the years including Primary President, Relief Society President, and Nursery Leader. Doraine loved her husband, children, and grandchildren very much. She taught us that family comes first. She loved us all fiercely. Grandma we will always think of you when we see hummingbirds, smell beautiful roses, sing silly songs, and burst with laughter. Doraine is survived by her children: Steven Orton, John (Kris) Orton, Linda (James) Telaroli, Jill (James) Haslem, Lisa (David) Evans, 21 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Dirk John Roothoff and John James Roothoff. Daughter-in-law Marylin Orton, Grandson Tyler Joe (T.J.) Orton, and Great-Grandson Tyrell Tony Robinson. Funeral services will be held Monday August 9, 2021 at Noon at the 3rd Ward Church 90 S. Main Street Parowan, Utah. A viewing will be held at the same location prior to the services from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Parowan City Cemetery.
