Eugene (Gene) Cantrell returned to his Heavenly Father’s loving arms on February 14, 2022. Born to Dexter and Anita Cantrell in 1943, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, fixing equipment, racing cars and surfing in sunny California.
Gene married his adoring wife Carol on December 20, 1980 and became a much-loved father to their sons, Rick (Crista), Brian (Mary Anne), David (Bonnie) and Steven Bairett. They have been blessed with 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Gene will be remembered for his patience and kindness to all. He was a mechanical genius and spent much of his time helping others fix anything that needed fixing. His mechanical knowledge made him a great sales distributor. In addition to providing small engine repair to his community, Gene worked many winters on the ski patrol at Brian Head.
Gene enjoyed sharing his Cherokee heritage with local Cub Scouts. He was an avid outdoorsman and excelled at all kinds of fishing, hunting, competitive shooting, cycling and RC planes and cars. Involving his sons and grandchildren in his adventures inspired many of them to develop similar passions for the outdoors and follow in his footsteps. Grandpa Cantrell taught us all so much and was always available for his family and friends. We will miss him greatly.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 26, 2022 in the chapel at Southern Utah Mortuary. A viewing will be held prior at 10 am at the Mortuary. Interment will be in the Enoch City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
