Garn Seegmiller Obituary (1925

Garn F. Seegmiller passed away in St. George on January 19, 2014. He was born August 30, 1925 in Cedar City, Utah to Adam C. Seegmiller and Ruth Higbee Seegmiller. He was the third of five sons. Garn was musically talented. He had a fine voice and was the lead in many Cedar City High School Musicals. He graduated from high school in 1943 and soon thereafter was drafted into the U.S. Army. As did many, he married before going to war. His first wife was LaRae Rollins, later divorced. He served his country in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines during World War II. Upon discharge, he returned to Cedar city where he attended college. He completed a Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Utah. And thereafter taught music and band in Bountiful and in Salt Lake City. Garn was married to Barbara Ruth Shaw, February 5, 1960 and they eventually adopted two daughters and a son. They were later divorced. He married Joyce Hamblett on October 5, 1979 (now deceased). He married Melita Baggay on June 9, 2001. He was preceded in death by his two older brothers, Winston and Grant, and by his daughter, Jenny. He is survived by his wife, Melita, children Jonathan and Heidi (mother, Barbara), and by his brothers, Alan and Robert. Garn enjoyed living in St. George, Utah. He loved golf and played as often as he could until he was physically unable. He was also an avid bowler and bowled three or four days/nights a week until the middle of 2013. He was known as an excellent woodwind jazz musician, playing in many bands. He volunteered along with other retired musicians, playing at the local retirement homes. Melita came into his life at a time when he needed her. They were together for over twelve years. They had a wonderful way of taking care of each other. Graveside services will be held at the Cedar City Cemetery on Saturday January 25, 2014 at 11:00 am under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
