Cedar City, Utah

Geraldine Plannette Berry “Jerry Berry”, 94, passed away April 19, 2023. She was lovingly cared for by her children at her home in Cedar City, Utah.

Geraldine was born March 8, 1929, in the home of her grandmother Margaretha “Maggie” Mae Bess. She was raised by her mother Feo Bess, later Plannette, and her stepfather Robert Monroe Plannette. Attending school in Cedar City, Jerry met and married her childhood sweetheart Leonard (Ross) Berry, June 27, 1947. Ross passed on January 30, 1997 and Jerry missed him dearly! Five years later, she had a chance at love again and happily married Wayne Gordon Jackson on August 21, 2001. Jerry gained 3 loving stepdaughters, Jan (Bob) Hansen, Sally (late Joe) Melling, and Deon (Larry) Rob.

Jerry is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was civic minded and active in Cedar City. During her life she had many accomplishments. She took first place in the senior bowling league, participated in the Messiah Choir for 14 years, while married to Wayne she was Honored Hostess in the annual Cedar Christmas Parade, she started the pinocle club in in 1948 (she was the last survivor). Jerry was an active member of WIBCO, “Women in Business Committee”. She was civic minded and through WIBCO she organized the first annual Quilt and Lecture Show, put together Cedar’s 1st annual fashion show with hair design, and was voted woman of the year 1989 for her dedicated service to Cedar through WIBCO. Her biggest accomplishment was graduating from Vera Hatches first class of “Cosmetology College of Southern Utah” on June 23, 1968. Then she opened her own salon.

Jerry is an amazing woman who was friendly to everyone she met. She carried her final active hairdressers license at Roland William’s salon to her final day! She loved hair styling, motorhome travel, bluegrass festivals, early days of mountain camping, visits, reunions of any kind, but more important “Her Family”, her extended family, friends, clientele and everyone she would meet.

Jerry is survived by her children Allen Rex (DiAnne) Berry, Carol Ann (late James) Allred, Layne Maurice (Debby Jo) Berry, Mark Ross (Jennifer) Berry, step daughters previously listed, plus multitudes of grandchildren and greats.
