Herbert Ellsworth Schlosser, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on June 1, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on November 14, 1933, in Vincennes, Indiana, Herb was the son of Delbert Zoram Monroe Schlosser and Martha Mae Schlosser. He grew up and attended school in Vincennes, cherishing the values of hard work and family from a young age.
Herb’s life was filled with love, laughter, and dedication. He was first married to JoAnn Young, with whom he had his daughter, Sue (Don). Later, he married Carolyn Eccles, and together they had four children: Sandy (Stan), Todd (Lori), Tony (Yvonne), and Karen. Eventually, fate led him to meet the love of his life, Berdean Hall Masterson, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were married on October 6, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nevada, adding two more children Raymond (Andrea) Masterson and Mark Masterson. They were later sealed in the St. George Temple on May 30, 1979. Together, they had two children: Becky (TJ) and Del.
Herb spent much of his life working as a miner in the rugged landscapes of Utah and Nevada, demonstrating perseverance and grit. In retirement, he devoted his time to the community he cherished in New Harmony, Utah, often volunteering and lending a hand wherever needed.
A man of many passions, Herb loved the outdoors—especially hunting, fishing, camping, and scouting. He also had a fondness for collecting Avon memorabilia and old antiques. Known far and wide for his endless supply of candy and quick-witted humor, he never passed up a chance to share a joke—even if you didn’t want to hear it. As he often said, “Life is too short to be serious,” and he lived each day with laughter and light. Herb was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by his loving wife Berdean, his children, 31 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren—with one more on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters, his in-law parents, and his son, Tony.
Herb was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. His legacy of love, humor, and kindness will live on through the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Missionary Fund or Humanitarian Fund.
