New Harmony, Utah
After a four-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Hillary Prince, 63, peacefully passed away on April 15, 2024, in her home in New Harmony, UT. She was born on July 1, 1960, in Forest Gate Hospital in London, England.
Hillary grew up in Colchester, England, where she loved seeing the bluebell flowers in springtime. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Las Vegas, NV. It was there where she met her future husband, Gary Prince. After she finished her mission, she returned home to the England for three weeks before returning to Las Vegas as a nanny and to pursue a relationship with Gary.
Other than that questionable decision, she lived a nearly perfect life. Her time was spent in service to everyone around her. No one has ever more faithfully applied the scriptural injunction to mourn with those who mourn, to comfort those who need comfort, and to stand as a witness of God at all times, in all things, and in all places. She received the Savior’s image in her countenance. And through her decades of service, hundreds of others came to know God. Hers was a life well lived.
Among the many people that Hillary served over the years were the Church’s youth. In multiple wards, she served as Young Women’s President where she gave each of the young girls in her care the love and support they needed to grow. Whether through providing a listening ear, a helpful hand, or a shoulder to cry on, Hillary was always there to help. When her time in that calling ended, she was immediately called as Girl’s Camp Director. For several years, she filled these roles while also teaching early morning Seminary. Her service never ended.
Hillary’s compassionate heart manifested in other ways as well. Throughout the years, she welcomed multiple people into her home who had nowhere else to go. Gary never knew when he would walk in and find someone else living in the house. And Hillary’s kids—through all of this—had to play bedroom roulette to accommodate her many guests. Each of the people Hillary invited in became family. She was a mother to many more than just her biological children.
Although her endless service would have expended the resources of anyone else, Hillary had many other interests too. Somehow, she followed each of those interests with the same dedication and focus that characterized her service. She was a voracious reader, acted in several plays, and loved spending time outdoors. She also had a healthy interest in British soap operas. During her final decade, she found great joy in working for Delta Airlines and loved working with her colleagues. Delta let her both continue to serve others and return home frequently to the family she loved so much across the Atlantic.
But her biggest interest of all was her family. She loved her siblings and parents, and though she lived on a different continent than them, her heart never stopped yearning for home. She was a tireless advocate for her five children. She loved them—and they loved her—dearly. And in her final years, her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
Four years ago, Hillary received news that she had ALS. She met that diagnosis bravely despite knowing that it would eventually take her life. Rather than allowing the fear of death or the pain of the disease to deter her from her life of service, she doubled down on it. She served until she could no longer walk. She expressed her love even after she could no longer talk. Her final act of love was holding on until she saw her children one last time. Hours after her last child arrived to see her, she passed away to continue her life of service in Heaven.
Hillary is survived by her husband, Gary Prince, her father Ian Foster, and by her siblings Adrian Foster (Lynn), Sarah Leslie (Chris), Rachael Foster, and Martin Foster (Clare). She is also survived by her five children Joshua (Kari), Matthew (Jolisa), Jonathan (Liberty), Mackenzie (Jonah), and Jacob (Halle). She has ten—nearly eleven—beloved grandchildren: Afton Prince, Bear Prince, Ava Prince, Octavia Prince, Nash Heim, Ian Prince, Vivian Prince, Luxx Heim, Bronco Prince, and Ivy Prince. Her family will be joined in June by Champ Heim. She was preceded in death just last year by her mother, Wyn Foster. Hillary made her last trip to England for her mother’s funeral. Now they are together again.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 1 pm at the New Harmony building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 12 S Main St, New Harmony, UT 84757. The funeral will be live streamed. A viewing will be held on the same day at 11 am. Interment will be in the New Harmony cemetery, under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
