Hugh Earl Blackburn, 81, passed away January 10, 2021 in St George, Utah. He was born August 16, 1939 in Minersville, Utah on the kitchen table. He was the only son of Douglas Perry and Elma Mary Thompson.\nHugh grew up in Minersville exploring the Beaver river creek bed that ran behind the house. He enjoyed fishing, hunting rabbits, birds, deer and going out west picking pine nuts. While attending Beaver High School he played football, basketball and was quite the boxer. He graduated in 1957. He married Shelia Ann Robinson November 15, 1957 in Beaver, Utah and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 21, 1966.\nAfter graduating and marrying Shelia, they moved to Elko then Moab where he worked for Chevron Oil. Eventually they ended up in Salt Lake City where Hugh completed Barber school. He then moved his family back to Beaver and bought Village Beauty and Barbershop and barbered for a total of 55 years. Although he claimed to be retired for 20 years, he cut hair up until a month before his death. In approximately 1994 Hugh decided to pursue his real estate license. With his trouble of dyslexia, mom and dad spent over a year studying and going to real estate school in St. George. He aced the test and started working with Hal Smith at Rockin-O-Realty.\nHugh was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many callings including a member of the Bishopric in 1978. He had a great love for the Savior and went about serving others and being a friend to all those he met. Hugh was selfless and thought of others before himself. He was willing to give his life to help at the Roberts’ barn 40 years ago.\nHugh enjoyed spending time fishing in the stream, hunting and working on Hughbert spring at the property on the mountain by LeBaron Lake. He supported his grandchildren by attending all their activities and games. He grew a big garden every year and delivered his harvest to many friends and neighbors’ doorsteps. You could always find Hugh talking to others as if they were long lost friends. Most summer nights he would sit in front of his house watching the Turkey Vultures soar over the cemetery, play his guitar, and always waving to passerby’s.\nHe is survived by his children, Lisa Brewer (Jeff), Chad (Julie), Doug (Andrea). 12 grandchildren and 19 and a half great-grandchildren, whom he adored. A sister, Irma Jean Edwards and Brothers-in-law, Wayne Christensen, Noal and Linda Robinson, James and Katie Robinson and sister-in-law Kathleen Davis.\nHe was preceded in death by his wife Sheila, son Danny Hugh, a great-granddaughter Jersey Lyn Mickelson. His parents Doug and Elma, in-laws Byron James and Kathleen Robinson. Sisters, Ann Christensen, Jacquelyn Muir and brothers-in-law Heber Davis and Russell Muir.\nGraveside Services will be held Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 1:30 pm at Mountain View Cemetery in Beaver, Utah.
