Janyce Myers

–

Beaver, Utah

Janyce Bradshaw Myers age 81, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at her home on May 29, 2024, in Beaver, Utah. Janyce and her twin sister, Joyce, were born in Greenville, Utah, to Ray and Ruth (Blackner) Bradshaw on September 10, 1942. They joined an older brother, Sherman, and the family later grew to include three more brothers, Donald, Clifford, and Hyrum.

Janyce was raised in Manderfield, where she learned the value of hard work. She and her siblings worked on their family farm alongside their father in whatever capacity was needed. This work ethic carried on with her throughout her life.

Her most constant childhood companion, however, was her twin sister, Joyce. The twins were inseparable as children, and they maintained this closeness throughout their lives. Their bond of sisterhood was a great comfort and strength to Janyce. Janyce also spent a lot of time in her youth at her grandparents’ homestead in Greenville. She carried fond memories of her Grandmother and Grandfather Blackner all of her life, and counted them as some of her most dear family members.

Janyce married her high school sweetheart Sherman Clayton Myers. They married on October 15, 1960, shortly after Janyce graduated from Beaver High School. The couple was later sealed in the Manti Temple on April 30, 1965. Establishing their home in Milford, Janyce and Sherman were blessed with nine children: Dennis Clayton (Laura), Kathy Lee (Mike), Debra (Alan), Jeffory Sherman, Cheryl (Doug), Brett Ralph (Ayrion), Barry Ray (Kelli), Kimberly, and Megan Dawn.

Janyce dedicated her life to mothering her children. Her ability to work hard proved necessary as she and Sherman worked together to raise nine busy, rowdy, and rambunctious children. She took her role of gatekeeper seriously. Janyce placed a high value on education, and ensured her children met her expectations regarding schoolwork. Janyce supported her children in all their activities. She cheered exuberantly and with all her heart, in whatever they endeavored. She was their biggest fan.

In addition to caring for her large family, Janyce took on work outside of the home. She prepared meals for students at Milford Elementary School and was also employed as a teacher’s aide. She had a special talent for teaching children to read, and often volunteered her time outside of school hours to tutor students who needed a little extra help. She truly loved the students with whom she worked and took great pride in their accomplishments. Janyce also managed a railroad lodging facility for several years. Janyce thoroughly enjoyed summertime when she and her husband Sherman took the entire family to the mountains and lived in their trailer house for several weeks. These were special times for Janyce, when she could spend quality time alone with her family, away from the other concerns and distractions of life. She felt a special affinity for the outdoors and especially enjoyed the beauty of the local mountains. Janyce often reflected on these summer memories and how they bonded with her family. Janyce was friendly and outgoing and always happy to strike up a conversation with friends and strangers alike. No one was a stranger for very long in her company, and she made new friends everywhere she went. She loved people and took great joy in sharing her stories and hearing theirs.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Janyce faithfully served in several callings. Her favorites were offering compassionate service to others through the Relief Society and cheerfully leading music during church meetings. Even amid raising her large family, Janyce always sought out opportunities to serve others. As her children grew up and moved on, Janyce and Sherman would do what they could to help each of them get established and on their way. She was quick to give of her time and talents wherever needed.

Janyce endured some very difficult challenges throughout her life, most notably the tragic and untimely loss of her son, Jeffory, and daughter, Megan. Losing her husband, Sherman, also created a void in her life that never filled. These experiences focused a greater emphasis on the value of her family. She also developed an abiding testimony of the atonement of Jesus Christ, and a knowledge that family relationships carry on after this life.

At the time of her passing, Janyce had 33 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sherman, son Jeffory Sherman, daughter Megan Dawn, and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at the Milford Cemetery (200 S 300 W, Milford, UT) under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences may be shared at www.mortuary.org.
