John Peterson Larson, 89, of Cedar City, Utah passed away on June 4, 2023 surrounded by his family.\n \nJohn was born on June 11, 1933 to Oscar Larson and Sarah Peterson Larson in Malad, Idaho. He lived in a small farming community and graduated from Malad High School. He was affectionately also known as “Johnny” or “John P.” \n \nShortly after high school, he moved to Burbank, CA and started working for Union Oil Company. He held various positions within the company for over forty years, including owning a service station. He was known for being an extremely hard worker, without ever taking a sick day.\n \nHe had a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed water skiing, boating, fishing, skeet shooting, hiking, river rafting, road trips, camping- mainly at Power House in Idaho. Being in nature was one of his favorite activities, especially being in the Tetons and Jenny Lake. \n \nHe was a follower of Christ and his faith never wavered. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held various callings throughout the years from Bishop, Young Mens, Stake callings, Missionary, Temple Worker, and many others. He was strong in his beliefs and was always willing to share the Gospel with others.\n \nHe loved talking about cars, airplanes, eating hamburgers, the tv show Taxi, jokes, reading books, going for walks after dinner, having his dog chew his feet, building things, working in the garage, waking up before the sun, funny sneeze sounds, taking pictures at every occasion, talking politics, hating seatbelts and always had a major sweet tooth.\n \nJohn was preceded in death by his parents, sister (Donna Larson Brown), brother (J.O. Larson), brother (Ralph). Also his loyal canine companions, Mister and Benson.\n \nHe is survived by his wife, Edith Sheffield. They were married for 23 years. They resided in Long Beach, CA prior to retiring to Cedar City, UT.\n \nHe raised five kids. Stephen Larson (Becky), Tami Larson Mallette (late John Mallette), Kristin Larson Lewis (Joey), Stephanie Larson, and John K. Larson in Orange County, CA with his former wife, Nancy T. Larson.\n \nGrandchildren: Ashley Larson Gill (Joshua), Michael Larson (Allison), Abbey Larson Jensen (Conner), Mathew Larson, J.T. Mallette, Cody Mallette, Lexi Shaw Foster (Jared), Quinnie Lewis, and Alex Lewis.\n \nGreat Grandchildren: Masha Gill, Henry Gill, Jack Foster, Lucy Foster, and Wells Larson.\n \nHe will be remembered for his faithful service to the Lord, always lending a hand to help a neighbor, being a hard worker and his love for being around his family and grandkids and having them make him laugh. \n \nFuneral Services will be held on Friday June 16th at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2015 North Wedgewood Lane, Cedar City, UT. A viewing will be held prior to that from 9:30 am -10:30 am at the Church. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
