Judith Lynne Cook Oman

–

Cedar City, Utah

Judith Lynne Cook Oman, age 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Cedar City, Utah, on May 4, 2024. She was born to Jess LeRoy and Helen Gertrude Farrant Cook on November 17, 1944, at the old hospital in Milford, Utah. She grew up on the Cook Ranch south of Milford and attended Milford High School, College of Southern Utah (now Southern Utah University), and nursing school in Salt Lake City. She married Eldon Oman on April 22, 1967, and they recently celebrated their 57th anniversary. Their three children Maria, Jess (Cindy), and Karl (DeEtta) have brought much joy. Her three beautiful grandchildren were the light of her life.

Judith worked at the Holy Cross Hospital (Salt Lake City) in the ICU and the Valley West Hospital (West Valley) in the pediatric ward. After moving to Hinckley and eventually Delta, she worked at the local hospital on the floor and in surgery. She enjoyed 35 years there and retired early due to health reasons.

As a child, Judith enjoyed growing up on the family ranch on the Milford Flat, riding her horse, driving cattle, and being known as a “flat kid.” She would talk fondly of her childhood experiences, especially how she always felt included and valued by her parents. As an adult, she was a caring and competent nurse touching many people’s lives in her community. She enjoyed cooking, going on picnics, gardening, reading, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed family trips including traveling to Hawaii and Ireland.

Judith shared, “When you remember me, I hope you’ll remember me as being kind and trying my best. I’ve strived to be trustworthy, honest, and caring about others.”

She is survived by her devoted husband, Eldon Oman; her children, Maria Oman, Jess (Cindy) Oman, and Karl (DeEtta) Oman; her grandchildren KaDee, Tandon, and Ethan Oman; her step-grandchildren Lyncoln Shumway (Calder), Kenna Shumway, and Hayzen Shumway.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Helen Cook, and her brother, Bill Cook.

A Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 12:30-1:30 p.m in Milford, Utah, at the Southern Utah Mortuary (209 S. 100 W., Milford, UT 84751).
