Karen Erickson

Beaver, Utah

Karen Cason Erickson, 79, passed away on Monday October 26, 2026, at her home in Beaver, Utah surrounded by family. She was born on June 23, 1947, to Paul and Arna Ward Cason in Cedar City, Utah. She married Charles Edward (Eddie) Erickson on January 7, 1966, in the St George LDS temple.

Karen grew up in the hills camping, hunting, and fishing with her parents and sisters. She had a love and reverence for the outdoors, instilling it in her family. She had a great sense of humor, loving to laugh and make others laugh. During a recent hospital stay she was checked on much more often than required rounds, we suspect for entertainment value more than medical needs.

Her career was homemaker, mother, and grandmother from which she never retired. She cherished her role as the matriarch of her adoring family, who will forever cherish her memory. We had an opportunity to return the favor recently when she was no longer able to serve us and we were able to serve her. As her needs increased her loving husband became a full-time caregiver.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as an example to others, whether as a stranger, friend, neighbor, or in official church callings. She served as Primary President, Young Women’s President, Relief Society President, and in various other callings throughout her life, putting others’ needs before her own.

Karen was awarded the Molly Pitcher Award for service to her country by the Department of Defense for her support to the US Army and Marine Corps Field Artillery companies by leading the Family Support Group of the 2/222 Field Artillery. She not only supported her husband and sons in the Utah National Guard but also the families of other members of the unit.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Arna Cason, her sister Deborah Eyre, son-in-law Neil Thomas. She is survived by her husband, Eddie Erickson; children Gary (Felisa) Erickson, Terry (Becky) Erickson, Russell (Jenifer) Erickson, Heather Thomas; sisters Denise Workman and Cathy Wood; 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 31, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Beaver 6th Ward chapel (200 N. Main St., Beaver, UT). Viewings will be held on Friday October 30th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Southern Utah Mortuary (195 N. 200 W., Beaver, UT) and on Saturday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 am at the church prior to the funeral.
