LaNae Thomas

–

Cedar City, UT

LaNae Davis Thomas, age 83, died on November 22, 2018, in Beaver, Utah, after battling cancer for the fifth time. She was born in Milford, Utah, the first of three daughters to Marcine Leon and Sylva Rollins Davis, on October 8,1935. She attended schools in Minersville and Beaver and graduated from Beaver High School in 1953.
For LaNae, growing up in Minersville was magical. She was surround by her immediate family, aunts and uncles, and lots and lots of cousins. She enjoyed playing down by the creek, making hollyhock dolls, sitting beneath the quilt frames while aunts talked above, walking down "the lane", going "out west" for picnics, and hunting arrowheads. She loved to sing with her family and enjoyed when all the cousins got together.
LaNae met and married that handsome kid from North Creek, Douglas R. Thomas. He drove an oil truck and when he came to Minersville to deliver oil to her Uncle Dan's service station, she would time it just right to be there. She latched on to him and they were married on March 7,1956. This marriage was later solemnized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Los Angeles Temple on December 16,1964. The happy couple was blessed with three children, Paula, David and Janet.
In 1960, LaNae and Doug moved to Arcadia, California in search of more meaningful employment. This was only to be a temporary move, but it lasted more than three decades. LaNae was proud to be a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed keeping her house clean and providing delicious meals for her family. She made many new life long friends in California and treasured them like family.
In 1979, LaNae's world turned upside when Doug passed away suddenly, leaving her with three young adult children to help prepare for the world. She did a fabulous job. She supported their educational, work and religious pursuits. LaNae's greatest pleasure was her family. She loved each of her children and their spouses, but had a greater love for her grandchildren and now great-grandchildren. She adored her sisters, Norma and Evelyn and their spouses. When they all got together, the laughs became contagious and everyone wanted to be around them.
LaNae was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was a visiting teacher for more than 55 years, held callings in the Primary, Cub Scouts, Young Women, and Relief Society programs, having served as Relief Society President twice. After returning to Utah in 1995, she served as Librarian and as an Ordinance Worker in the St. George Temple.
LaNae is survived by her three children and their spouses: Paula (Owen) Spencer, Beaver, UT; David (Kathleen) Thomas, Cedar City, UT and Janet (Gary) Clark of Cedar City, UT. She will be greatly missed by her 11 grandchildren: Benjamin (Amber) Spencer, Jeremy (Sophie) Spencer,
Brittney (Adam) Mejia, Clinton Thomas, Chad (Kelly) Thomas, Courtney (Joseph) Phillips, Cassidy Thomas, Hayden (Mikaela) Clark, Austin (Shay) Clark, Makenzie (Kody) Roney and Madison Clark, and 10 greatgrandchildren (with four more on the way). She is survived by her two sisters Norma (Harlan) Thomas, Milford, UT and Evelyn Munk, Cedar City,
UT, and her sister-in-law, AnnaMae Thomas, and many cousins and nieces and nephews. LaNae was preceded in death by her parents, Marcine and Sylva Davis, husband, Douglas Thomas, brother-in-law, Donald Munk, and all of Doug's siblings, Ruth Hoopes, Margaret Riley, Josephine Killiam, Eldon Thomas, Audrey Harris, Shirley Ashworth, Alice Swindlehurst, Dan Thomas, Nell Smith, Virginia Gillins, Helen Thomas, Jack Rehnstrom and Neil Rehnstrom.
