Leigh Joseph Kilpack Jr. was born to Leigh Joseph and Alice Juanita Kilpack on March 12, 1943 in Winnemucca, Nevada. He passed away May 5, 2022 at his home surrounded by family in Cedar city, Utah.
Leigh grew up in Salt Lake City. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission in the North Western States/Pacific Northwest Mission. In his words, “my mission experiences taught me a great deal about my fellow men, what the gospel can do for us and just how great the “truth” can be.” when Leigh returned home, he attended activities in the Winder Stake. There was a blonde that kept catching his eye. Finally one day they talked. One thing led to another and on June 19, 1970 Leigh and Karen Mineer were married in The Salt Lake Temple.
Leigh worked hard to provide for his family. He worked in the electronics field as well as numerous other jobs. He made a career with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, working most of his career as a Range Master at the shooting range up Parleys Canyon certifying fellow officers. Leigh had a love of guns, and while working at the range, he was able to hone his skills. Leigh then worked a short time performing security at the Federal Courthouse in Salt Lake City.
Leigh loved the outdoors. When not working, he was most often found with his sons hunting, family riding dirt bikes and camping, or at the family’s property at Skyline Mountain Resort. He loved watching his children play sports, and was their biggest fan.
Leigh’s smile and laugh were contagious. He made a point to talk to others, and was so generous and kind. Other people felt his kindness. It is what endeared him to others.
Leigh is survived by his wife of almost 52 years Karen Kilpack, sons Jeramie Kilpack, Scott Kilpack, Todd Kilpack, daughters Terina (Rick) Ure, Karleigh (Ethan) Hooper and 10 grandchildren.
We will miss your sense of humor, compassion, and love you had for us. We love you! Until we meet again.
