Marilyn Elva Miles Fotheringham passed away on November 20, 2018 at the age of 87. Marilyn was the daughter of Lorin C. Miles and Elva Johnson Miles. She was born in Cedar City, Utah, on January 17, 1931. \nMarilyn married her first and only love, Robert Bruce Fotheringham, on September 17, 1949, in the St. George Temple. They lived in Beaver County for a few years, and then made their permanent home in Cedar City. They are the parents of four children: David Bruce, Robert Miles, Debra Marie, and Gary Scott.\nMarilyn attended the Cedar City public schools, graduating from Cedar High in 1949. She later went on to attend the College of Southern Utah (SUU) in Cedar City, earning a degree in Elementary Education and in English. She graduated in 1965 as valedictorian of her class. After graduating from college, she became a beloved teacher and taught in the Iron County School District for 27 years.\nAs an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all of her life, Marilyn served faithfully in the various positions to which she was called. She was an arbitrator in the indexing program and over the years processed hundreds of thousands of names. Probably the most satisfying genealogy work she did for herself was the writing and compiling into a book the histories of Bruce’s and her ancestors going back six generations. All of her life she maintained an unwavering devotion to the strong testimony she possessed. \nMarilyn’s family and friends were the focus and love of her life. She had a kind and pleasant disposition. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends in the United States and abroad. She had a gift for seeing the beauty in her life and in the people she loved. Marilyn enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She was an avid reader and a gifted writer. \nMarilyn lived a long and rich life filled with all of the best things. She left a remarkable legacy for her family and was an example to them of love, integrity, and positive thinking. Her presence in their lives will be greatly missed. \nMarilyn is survived by her husband, Robert Bruce, and their children, David Bruce (ShaRee), Robert Miles (Susan), Debra Marie (Jim Johnson), and Gary Scott. She has 18 grandchildren, and 39 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Gail (Bonnie) Miles, and one sister, Carol (Larry Adair), and one sister-in-law LaRae Miles. \nShe is preceded in death by her sister, Lois Miles Higbee, and her brother LC Miles Jr.\nFuneral services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Cedar West Stake Center (725 S 1100 W, Cedar City, UT). A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm at the Cedar West Stake Center. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
