Norman Davis

–

Enoch, Utah

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather,
Norman “Boyd” Davis, who passed peacefully at home in Enoch, Utah, on October 13, 2026, at the age of
89. Known as Boyd for most of his life, he was also called Norman by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years.
Born on June 24, 1937, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to William Henry Davis and Mable Josephine Sterrett, Boyd
was the youngest of seven children and the only one born in a hospital. His mother often said he was the
most mischievous of her children and responsible for most of her gray hairs.

At age four or five, Boyd’s family moved to Alameda, California, in search of work in the shipyards. His
adventurous spirit was evident early on, as he explored train yards and found plenty of trouble along the
way. In 1945, the family settled in Ashland, Oregon, where they transformed a ten-acre property into a
beautiful homestead with gardens, a stream, a lily pond, a cabin, and a waterwheel. Boyd loved helping his
mother grow, harvest, cook, and preserve their food. He also enjoyed hunting and often remembered his
years in Oregon as some of the happiest of his life.

Boyd graduated from Ashland High School in 1955 and later attended Southern Oregon University and
Brigham Young University. In 1957, he joined the United States Marine Corps, completing his training
among the top five in his platoon. He served in Hawaii, earned a top-secret security clearance, and traveled
throughout the Pacific region before completing his military service in 1961.

Following his service, Boyd served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
in the Central Atlantic States. He later worked as a park ranger at Oregon Caves National Monument and
Tucumcari National Monument before discovering his love for teaching. He went on to teach elementary
school in Las Vegas, Nevada, for 35 years, pursuing a master’s degree in elementary education along the
way.

On March 29, 1969, Boyd married the love of his life, Carole Marie Webster. They shared 49 wonderful
years together before her passing in 2018.

Boyd will be remembered for his quiet strength, friendly disposition, adventurous spirit, and love of family.
He was an avid reader, a gifted storyteller, and a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics,
and BYU football. His life was filled with hard work, service, and countless memories that will be cherished
by those who knew and loved him.

Boyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carole, and his great-granddaughter, Lily Anne Minkler.

He is survived by his daughters, Heather Marie Sherman (Steve Sherman) and Paige Jo Bigney (Sam
Bigney); eight grandchildren, Kaleen Minkler (Garrett Minkler), Karissa Sherman, Kordell Sherman, Keslee
Sherman, Duncan Bigney, Bridger Bigney, Fern Bigney, and Odessa Bigney; three great-grandchildren,
Edward Minkler, Ewan Boyd Minkler, and Lukas Minkler; and his last surviving brother, Garold Neil Davis
(Norma Davis).

A graveside service with military honors will be held Monday, October 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Enoch
Cemetery in Enoch, Utah under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. To send online condolences, please visit www.motuary.org.
