Patria Sorenson

–

Kanab, UT

Patria Mary Sorenson, 91, beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and dear friend left this life peacefully May 19, 2017 surrounded by her family in Kanab, UT. Patria was born August 28, 1925 in Pocatello, Idaho and married Gordon Gail Sorenson on March 22, 1945 in Santa Monica, CA. Gordon passed away May 31, 1981. She worked 23 years for the telephone company and finished her working career with Zion Plumbing, retiring in December 2003. She was a valued employee who was loyal to her employers. She gained many friends and kept in touch with them throughout the years. One of her favorite memories was being handed the keys to the owners Corvette to run an errand.  She also had a great relationship with the children of the owners. Patria was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings. She enjoyed serving in the Relief Society presidency and being a visiting teacher. She faithfully attended the temple every Friday for many years, driving alone or with one of her friends. The announcement of a temple in Cedar City was especially joyful for her. Patria began her married life in Richfield, Utah but moved to Cedar City in 1952. She lived there for 52 years. In 2002, her son Jim moved to Kanab. When she came to visit, she told him she would never live in Kanab! A year and a half later, she sold her home in Cedar City and bought a home in Kanab. Then she would laughingly tease that one should never say never. She enjoyed Kanab, and made many friends who visited her often. In 2013, she decided to live with her son Jim and his wife Annie, and was so happy to be able to spend time with them. She had a close and loving relationship with her son. She loved watching the Utah Jazz, listening to Tony Bennett, spending time with her family and loved traveling with her sister, Nancy. She loved visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her little dogs, Tiffy and Molly were her beloved companions. She will be fondly remembered by many.   Her survivors include her son Jim (Annie) of Kanab, Utah, her 2 brothers Richard (Kay) and Jon, three grandchildren, Travis (Sandy), Laura (Allan), and Nathan, and 9 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers, Tom and Alan, her sister, Nancy, and her identical twin, Carol. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Cedar West Stake Center (725 South 1100 West, Cedar City, UT). A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 6-8pm at Southern Utah Mortuary (190 North 300 West, Cedar City, UT) and a viewing will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 9:30-10:30am at the Cedar West Stake Center.
