On December 16, 2018, Ronald Alger Bess returned to his Heavenly Father, while surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born on January 26, 1940 to Willard James and Cleo Alger Bess. Ron was born third out of seven children. Ronald married the love of his life, Janet Atkin on May 29, 1959 in Beaver, Utah. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George temple on June 25, 1966.\nRon grew up in what he liked to call "God's Country", Parowan, Utah. Ron has always done everything he could for his family. He dropped out of high school his junior year to ride race horses in order to help provide for his family. He was the top jockey in three states at one time. Later he worked endless hours at the Iron Mines and the Iron County Courthouse. He was an avid hunter, who loved to spend time on the trail with his sons and then later his grandkids. Ron also enjoyed fishing, camping, riding horses and spending hours in the hills with his family. Ron, also taught his sons and grandkids the joys of training and running hounds. He also had a knack for telling and retelling stories of all kinds, as well as spending time visiting and enjoying a cup or two at the Parowan Café.\nRon is survived by his wife, three of his children, Kim (Peggy) Bess of Parowan, Utah; Shane (Wendy) Bess of Parowan, Utah; Rance (Nichole) Bess of Paragonah, Utah, his 22 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, as well as four of his siblings, Cleon Richardson, Kathleen Stones, Betty Jo Robb, and Ken Bess. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Cleo Bess, his brother Ray Bess, his sister Janet Thornton, and his daughter Kristy Sue Bess.\nFuneral services will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Parowan 3rd and 4th Ward Church. A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Southern Utah Mortuary in Parowan from 5:00-7:00 pm. A second viewing will be held on Friday, December 21 at the Parowan 3rd and 4th Ward Church from 9:30-10:30 am Interment will be in the Parowan Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
