Scott Yardley

–

Cedar City, Utah

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Scott Yardley. At the age of 75, Scott unexpectedly passed away at his home in Milford, Utah, not far from the Beaver Mountains, where he spent many summers camping and fishing with family. He was born on July 3, 1951, in Cedar City, Utah, to Donald Jay Yardley and Corrine Yardley.

After graduating from Beaver High School with the class of 1970, Scott served in both the U.S. Army and the Utah Army National Guard, with the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Field Artillery Regiment, known as the “Triple Deuce.” During his military career, Scott traveled throughout Europe and served in the Vietnam War. He later discovered his true passion for trains and worked as a diesel mechanic for the Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years.

Although he had seen the world, Scott always considered Milford home, which is why he returned after retirement to spend his days restoring old cars and gardening. Though Scott was not spiritual in the traditional sense, he was religious when it came to his music, maintaining an extensive collection that ranged from classical music to ’80s rock.

Many knew him simply as Scott, but to his family, he was lovingly nicknamed “Scooter” for the way he zoomed through the world (after his midday power nap and cup of coffee, of course). One never truly had to wonder what Scott was thinking because he often narrated his life out loud for everyone to hear. Family dinners were always a treat—the level of enjoyment could be measured by the number of enthusiastic “Mmm’s” and “Oh, that’s good” comments from our beloved uncle.

Scott is survived by his siblings, Deborah Yardley Taylor, Kris D. Yardley, and Kenneth A. Yardley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Jay Yardley and Corrine Yardley, and his brother, Dell Yardley.
We often joked that “Scott would outlive us all,” which makes his sudden passing all the more heartbreaking. But as we come to terms with a world that is a little less bright without him, we can still find him in the cactus blossoms each spring, in the desert sunsets, and in the whistle of a train horn.

Graveside Services with military honors will be held Saturday October 31st at 1:00 pm at Milford City Cemetery,. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Beaver County Food Network PO Box 937 Beaver, Utah 84713 or the Milford Lions Club PO Box 154 Milford, Utah 84751.
