Theon "Bud" Bauer Obituary (1931 - 2018)

Theon “Bud” Ashdown Bauer passed away Saturday, November 10th at home. He was born in Cedar City, Utah on July 17, 1931 to Harmel Jacob and Fern Ashdown Bauer. Bud spent his youth working and farming alongside his older brothers and father. He touted himself as a “marble master” and made his own toys out of sticks and bottles and loved playing in the big ditches. He always enjoyed a good “rubber band gun fight” with his grandchildren. In his teen years Bud loved sports and enjoyed playing year-round. Just this year he told the kids that he should have spent more time studying because he loved mathematics and had an incredibly good memory. At the age of 25 he met and married the love of his life and eternal companion, a beauty from Provo, Utah, Annette Cook on March 17, 1956 in Las Vegas, Nevada and together they have had good luck and been very blessed throughout their 62 years of marriage. On February 12,1965 they took their children to the St George Temple and were sealed together as an eternal family. Bud’s famous quote to his family is “Family Is Everything” and he has done everything he could, not only for his family, but also for his extended family and friends. He was always outgoing, generous, genuine and made friends very easily. He has always been known for his big happy smile and his contagious laugh. Bud has always been respected for his kindness, integrity and sincerity. He is our real cowboy hero and he has left a legacy bigger than life its-self. He lived his life being an example to his family; every child, outlaw, grandchild and great grandchild knows that they were loved because he made each one feel as though they were his favorite. We will all miss his “big bear hugs”. Bud was not afraid to work long and hard, and he did. For 30 years he worked for Cedar City Corporation as the Water Department Superintendent by day, and spent his evenings running his farm, growing hay and raising his sheep and cows; each animal knew their shepherd and would come running to him as he whistled for them. For seven years with his family, he owned and operated “The Bauery” Restaurant. It was Bud’s pipe dream and Annette’s nightmare. In 2015 he was given the honor to be named, The Iron County Cattleman of the Year. He held this honor in great esteem and was humbled by it. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints he served the Lord and his community faithfully in many callings. Together, he and Annette raised five children; Debra (Randy) Robinson, Richard (Linda) Bauer, Mary (Karl) Probst, Joyce (Dave) Christensen, and Glen (Lana) Bauer. They are the proud grandparents to 22 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren and have been extremely pleased watching their posterity grow in the gospel and into productive citizens. Bud is survived by his loving eternal companion, his children and grandchildren; sisters, Frances (Ken) Davis; Bobbie Flint; Janice (Don) Johnson; sister-in-law, Marilyn Bauer. Bud is proceeded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; brothers, Arlen Bauer and Denton (Mary) Bauer; sisters, Karlynn (Ted) Nelson, Margaret (Adrian)Tait, Sharon Bauer and brother-in-law Don Flint. Family and friends may call Monday, November 19, 2018, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Southern Utah Mortuary, (190 N 300 W, Cedar City, Utah) and again on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 9:30 – 10:30 am at the Cedar City 4th Ward Chapel. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at 11:00 am at the Cedar City 4th Ward Chapel, (500 W 400 N, Cedar City, Utah). Interment will be in Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
