Vanez & Lucille Hawkes Obituary (1939

Vanez Leroy Hawkes passed away peacefully at his home on October 18, 2015 after a long battle with a debilitating disease. He was born on November 26, 1939 to Alvin "Lawrence" and Mabel Hawkes in Logan, Utah. He grew up on his parents' farm in Howell Valley, Utah. He graduated from Bear River High School. He was in the United States Air Force. He was a licensed electrician by trade working in many areas of Utah. He retired from WECCO in 2007. He made friends everywhere he went. He was always willing to help. His hobbies included wood-working, refinishing furniture, maintaining a beautiful yard, cooking the best breakfast in town, and telling the best stories and jokes around. His children are Devan Hawkes, Kaylene (Ken) Hornberger, Teresa Hansen, and Emillie (Chris) Chisholm. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Bob, Boyd and DeVere; and sisters: Carmen Hawkes, Clotiel Jones and Jean Stander. Lucille Hunter Hawkes passed away surrounded by family and friends on October 23, 2015. She fought valiantly throughout her life battling many physical ailments. She was born on January 20, 1945 to Dewayne Schoppman Hunter and Bettie Anna Cecilia Vandenberghe in Cedar City, Utah. She grew up in Cedar City and went to Cedar High School. She was a beautician by trade. She was a very talented woman and shared her talents with many. Some of her hobbies included Brazilian embroidery, quilting, sewing, cooking, making candy, interior decorating, decorating Christmas trees, and outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. She especially loved being with family and enjoyed every minute she had with her grandkids. Her children are John Bishop, Heidi (Mike) Stephenson, and Jack (Carrie) Holt. She was preceded in death by her husband Vanez Hawkes, parents and brother Earl J. Hunter. Van and Lucille met in October of 1987 during the deer hunt and enjoyed 28 entertaining years together. They married on December 26, 1987 and were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple on September 26, 1999. With their combined talents they created a beautiful life together in Cedar City, Utah, where they enjoyed many things including finding and refinishing antiques, gardening, hunting, and spending time on the mountain. They were inseparable in life as well as in death. They had a love for one another that was true and endless. They are survived by their combined 7 children and spouses, 21 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, as well as a sister Margaret (Dennis) Udy. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar 7th/9th/17th Ward Chapel (256 S 900 W, Cedar City, UT). A viewing will be held Thursday evening, October 29th from 6-8:00 p.m. at Southern Utah Mortuary (190 N 300 W, Cedar City, UT). A viewing will also be held at the church on Friday, October 30th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. The family would like to give a special thanks to Zion's Way and Gentle Touch for the loving care they gave to Van through the years, as well as to the Nurses and Doctors who took care of Lucille in her final days at Valley View Medical Center.
