Wallace Dean Flanigan, age 84, passed away on December 1, 2014 at the home of his son in Beaver, Utah. He was born on April 27, 1930 in Cedar City. His parents are Wallace Alma and Sarah Jeanette Walker Flanigan. When Wally was a young boy the family moved to a small farm in Cedar Valley. This is where Wally was taught to work hard and leaned from his father how to make do with what you have. Wally had two sister and two brothers. Phyllis Gill (deceased) Murray of Henderson, NV, Jeanette (Gary) Jones of Cedar City, UT, Glade (Nancy) Arlington of Washington. He attended Cedar High, where he was a member of the FFA club, as he raised and showed his Champion lambs. Wally courted and eventually married Helen Thorley on August 4, 1950 in Cedar City. They had been married just over a year when Wally was drafted in the US Army. He served in Korea as a radio operator. Wally and Helen have two sons Dennis (Amy) of Cedar City and Dayle (Kathy) of Beaver. Wally was active in the Jaycees where he enjoyed putting up the Christmas lights. His job was to climb the big pine tree on the Depot lawn and get the lights clear to the top. He was a life member of the Cedar Elks Lodge where he served as a five year trustee. Wally was a very hard worker and would take on most any job. One of his joys was that he had built for each family a set of Adirondack chairs and tables, bird houses and wooden wheel barrows. Wally and Helen shared their yard with so many people where many family reunions, rehearsal dinners and weddings were held. Wally had several professions from being a core driller, having a service station, where Zion bank is on main street. He retired from SUU as their receiving agent and motor pool office. After Wally retired he really enjoyed golfing with "The Guys". Wally was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis.
